Focus Consulting WA was founded in 2017, and created to Focus on providing excellent electrical consultancy services from project conception, detailed technical design and documentation, through to construction to ensure a successful project outcome exceeding the client’s expectations. Paul Jeffs – Director
Paul Jeffs has over 27 years’ experience in the electrical services industry, with 18 years’ experience dedicated to electrical building services within the UK and 13 years dedicated to Western Australia.
Paul has a wide range of experience in both the electrical contracting and consulting engineering services. He has been involved within an extensive range of commercial, public sporting facilities, educational, retail and healthcare projects. Having relocated from the UK, Paul’s European experience provides a fresh viewpoint on local engineering issues and engineering solutions. Paul emigrated to Australia in November 2006. He is involved in the detailed design and administration to all aspects of electrical services consulting.

With the collective experience from both contracting and consulting, Paul has developed a wide range of knowledge and skills which contribute to ensuring that the best engineering solution for the client and environment. Assisting Paul are two senior electrical design engineers who complete specific project design tasks ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and before time and to ensure Quality Assurance is always maintained.
Mike Higgs – Principal Engineer
Michael has over 15 years experience in the electrical and security consulting industry in Western Australia.
Michael’s extensive experience and thorough understanding of current standards, code requirements and attention to detail has ensured successful project outcomes for a wide range of projects within commercial, educational, judicial, retail, medical and residential sectors within Western Australia.

Craig Lougheed – Senior Engineer
Craig has over 13 years experience in the electrical and security consulting industry with 9 years dedicated to electrical building services in Western Australia.

Keith Barnes – BIM / Drafting Manager
Keith has been responsible for many Revit and AutoCAD projects in Western Australia, which include major retail developments, aged care facilities, multi-residential, educational and general commercial offices. He has a full understanding of BMW and private client drafting standards which are adhered to at all times.
Keith’s extensive knowledge and experience in Revit and Navisworks modelling allow clash detection to be easily identified and resolved quickly and efficiently with all project disciplines, to enable a fully co-ordinated model for a successful project outcome every time.

School Campus Construction
The stage 2 development includes a two-storey performing arts building containing visual art rooms, performing arts theatre, separate dance studio, music and media teaching spaces, 125 seat lecture theatre, student services and common areas.
The construction budget equates to $12M with electrical installation project costs of $1.2M. Focus Consulting WA delivered the electrical engineering design to budget and in full accordance with current standards, Secondary School Planning Guide (SSPG) and included ESD initiatives such as Photovoltaic systems and advanced lighting control to exceed NCC section J6 and 4star Green Star status.
PERTH MODERN SCHOOL
PEFORMING ARTS CENTRE / AUDITORIUM
The auditorium venue has a 700-seat capacity to include theatre, stage, foyer, kitchen green rooms and back of house facilities. Upper level mezzanine seating is provided to enhance the venue and achieve the occupancy levels.
Full specialist theatre audio and lighting is provided along with specialist intelligent house lighting control to ensure full dimming capability and scene control to enhance the space. The project was designed by Focus Consulting WA in full accordance with current standards, public health regulations and the Building Management & Works expectations.
The project will be complete in 2020/20201, with a construction cost of $10M and electrical installation project cost of $1.2M.
BAY VILLAGE
RESOURCE ACCOMMODATION CAMP
Bay Village Accommodation Camp is located in the City of Karratha, Western Australia and consists of transportable and in-situ constructed accommodation and associated facilities and services for Woodside.
The project includes 700-person occupancy guest rooms, kitchen / diner, administration, offices, gymnasium, laundries and sporting facilities.
Focus Consulting WA designed the electrical services for the project in 2019, working closely with the electrical contractor and Multiplex to meet and exceed the project brief expectations. The project will be complete in 2020, with a construction cost of $95M and electrical installation project cost of $7M.
City of Karratha
Sports Lighting Assessment
Focus Consulting WA was engaged to conduct audits of all internal and external sporting facilities for the City of Karratha, this audit included sporting facilities in Roebourne, Wickham and Dampier. The sporting facilities included AFL ovals, rugby fields, softball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, lawn bowls and aquatic facilities. The purpose of the audit to confirm if the existing installations complies with the relevant sporting standards AS2560 and the Wiring Rules AS3000 as well as documenting the current condition of the assets.
Illuminance (Lux) readings were recorded at each facility during the dark hours to assess the current lighting levels and lamp performance.
The assessment included visual inspections of each installation to include floodlights, light poles and electrical infrastructure. Due to the floodlights being installed at high level, Elevated Work Platform (EWP) were utilised up to 35m in height. Focus Consulting WA arranged the EWP access hire and logistics to each site to ensue the visual inspections were conducted efficiently to meet the project deadlines.
